Natural Purity

Confined Aquifer

Untouched for Centuries

The confined aquifer has for centuries remained untouched. As it once sat below the sea, the confined chalk aquifer continues to be perfectly preserved by the impermeable layers of rock and earth that have since formed over it. Acting as a natural filter, the confined aquifer takes decades to process, resulting in the purest water you can find.

Natural Chalk Filter

The chalk layer measures an impressive 300 meters thick and boasts an enormous reserve within its naturally pressurised chamber. This allows us to call the water ‘artesian spring water’. When an artesian aquifer is tapped, natural pressure in the aquifer forces the water up in to the borehole.

Providing since 1890

The original borehole at Elsenham was started in 1890 and soon became the primary source of drinking water for residents in the area. Such was the quality of the water, the borehole was extended in 1919 to meet with demand and provide homes with fresh drinking water all year round.

Rediscovery & Reopening

The borehole was fortunately re-discovered and redrilled in 2000 with the help of expert geological teams.

Water Circle

Given the purity and excellent mineral quality of the water from the chalk-based confined aquifer that sat below, in 2004 a state of the art building and bottling facility was built over the borehole and has since become HQ to Elsenham Artesian Spring Water where we continue to extract, bottle and export our water, across the globe.
